Video: After missing weight by 11 pounds, UFC vet Melvin Guillard gets KO’d by spinning kick

Former UFC fighter Melvin Guillard missed weight again, then he got viciously knocked out.

The downward spiral of Melvin Guillard’s career continues.

“The Young Assassin” (32-17-2, 3 NCs) fought welterweight Muslim Salikhov (12-1) at Kunlun Fight MMA 12 in China on Thursday, and before we can even get into the specifics of the fight, it has to be known that Guillard once again was not remotely close to making weight. He was nearer to middleweight than welterweight, missing by a staggering 11 pounds.

After an entire UFC career in which he only missed weight once (vs. Donald Cerrone in 2012), he’s been a complete disaster on the scales since the UFC released him in 2014. He failed to make weight in both WSOF appearances, including a title bout vs. Justin Gaethje. While in Bellator MMA, Guillard came in heavy against Derek Campos, then again vs. David Rickels (and he failed the drug test), and most recently fought Chidi Njokuani at a 179 lbs catchweight.

Returning to Thursday’s fight against Salikhov, it ended badly for the 33-year-old. Salikhov is known for his spinning kick knockouts, and Guillard is his latest victim. Check out the video for yourself.

Guillard is now 1-5 (1 NC) since the end of his UFC tenure. He’s been knocked out three times in the last five years after previously going his whole career without ever being finished via strikes.
