‘Just grow and learn’: De La Hoya reacts to Zepeda’s loss to Stevenson
Oscar De La Hoya doesn’t expect William Zepeda’s loss to be a major setback.
Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya spoke to Fight Hub TV after his fighter William Zepeda would come up short to Shakur Stevenson over the weekend. Speaking on the fight and the result, De La Hoya says he expects the fight to be a learning experience for Zepeda but expects him to bounce back just fine.
De La Hoya on his reaction to Zepeda’s loss to Stevenson
“It was a good fight. The scores were off but, yeah, Shakur did his thing. I think the first half was Zepeda, the second half was Shakur. You have to give it up to him.
“It was good, it was back and forth. It was a great show.”
On what’s next for Zepeda
“Back to the drawing board, you know. But one loss is nothing. One loss against a really good fighter like Shakur doesn’t mean anything. You bounce back from it. That’s what boxing is.”
On how view of how the fight transpired
“[Zepeda] threw a lot more punches but the one thing about Shakur is that the punches he lands are very effective so they’re just great for the scoring. But I think overall it was a good fight. I think it was another great experience for Zepeda, you just grow and learn.”
