A heavyweight rematch between Johnny Fisher and Dave Allen and the return of Sam Goodman headline a relatively quiet week in boxing

Thursday, May 15

FOX Australia/Kayo Sports PPV, 5:00 am ET, Sam Goodman vs Cesar Vaca. This is Goodman’s consolation prize after cuts in training forced him out of two scheduled fights with Naoya Inoue. Kayo isn’t available in the USA, so no viewing options domestically at this point. But, our loyal Australian readers can watch at 7 pm Sydney time Wednesday night for just $50 Australian. Olympic bronze medalist Harry Garside appears in support.

Friday, May 16

DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, X Series 21. This one is free and on a Friday afternoon US time, so you know it’s low grade even for MF x DAZN events. Headline fight is Darren Till vs Darren Stewart, a pair of former MMA fighters from the UK. Who will emerge as the Baron of Darren(s)? Watch and find out. Unless it gets cancelled, as these things sometimes do. Like the last attempt at an X Series 21, which was cancelled on fight week back in March!

Saturday, May 17

DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Johnny Fisher vs Dave Allen 2. A rematch of their “controversial” fight in December on the deep undercard of Usyk vs Fury 2. “Controversial” because Fisher received a split decision win, but most observers felt Dave Allen was hard done by the result. When this rematch was announced, Stumberg offered the promotional slogan: “Big Meaty Men Slapping Meat,” which was tragically rejected or outright ignored. Is this a great fight with world championship implications? No. Fisher remains a likeable young man who got some opportunities on TV because his dad did such a good job selling event tickets around the neighborhood. In the pre-Saudi era of this sport, this would be laughable or depressing as not just a main event, but the spotlight showcase of an entire weekend. But, we are where we are, the lads are obviously pretty evenly matched, they gave a good show last time around, and there’s fun to be had here if you care to give it your eyeballs. Kieron Conway and Shannon Ryan are the biggest stars appearing in support. BLH will have live updates

DAZN, 9:00 pm ET, BoxFest #75. From MarvNation Promotions and Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California. Fernando Vargas fights former Jaime Munguia victim Gonzalo Coria, and Nathan Rodriguez also appears. Looks like only 38 ticketed seats are still available for this one, so act fast if you’re local and want to see it in person.

UFC Fight Pass, 9:00 pm ET, Hollywood Fight Nights. Nice little card if you happen to have Fight Pass. Serhii Bohachuk vs Mykal Fox is your main event, with Omar Trinidad in support and women’s WBO super flyweight champ Mimi Hiruta defending her belt against Carla Merino.
