‘He wants a big fight to go out on’: Chisora in position to challenge Dubois for IBF title

Frank Warren says Derek Chisora holds the mandatory position for IBF title as he looks towards 50th fight.

Derek Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) has found himself in a pretty good situation as he eyes retirement. Chisora recently beat Otto Wallin in an IBF title eliminator, which would have him take on reigning champion Daniel Dubois. But while Dubois has been targeting a unification match against Oleksandr Usyk — who himself has been ordered by the WBO to defend against Joseph Parker — it seems that Dubois may end up making his defense against Chisora.

Queensberry promoter Frank Warren tells Sky Sports that he knows Chisora wants to finish off his career with a big fight and he’s already had some preliminary discussions with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn about it.

“He wants a big fight to go out on. Eddie [Hearn] and I have had a couple of chats today and in due course will let people know our views on what we’ll do...We want to deliver that 50th fight. I want to work something between us that we both [Warren and Hearn] walk him out.”

If Chisora is able to get the Dubois fight it could potentially spell for a fairy tale ending for the fan favorite, who has never quite been able to get over the hump to become a world champion. If he’s able to manage it in his 50th and final fight, what an ending that would be.
