Joseph Diaz Jr. vs. Josh Warrington in the works for Canelo-GGG undercard

0

The winner will become Gary Russell Jr’s mandatory challenger

Next month’s Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin pay-per-view remains in need of some fights and Golden Boy is working with Frank Warren to put one together. The two intend to pit Joseph Diaz Jr. against Josh Warrington in a WBC-mandated eliminator for a crack at Gary Russell Jr.

Diaz (24-0, 13 KO) has steadily worked his way through the featherweight ranks with one-sided wins on various HBO cards. He was last seen cruising past fellow unbeaten Manuel Avila on the Canelo-Chavez Jr. pay-per-view.

Warrington (25-0, 5 KO), meanwhile, has faced some of the stronger fighters the British scene has to offer. After defeating former Guillermo Rigondeaux victim Hisashi Amagasa and knocking out an overweight Patrick Hyland, he threw down with Kiko Martinez three months ago and got past him by the skin of his teeth.

Good fight from a rankings point of view, at least. Here’s hoping it turns into a an entertaining one.
