Former Canadian hockey player shot dead in the U.S. during a golf trip: reports
A Canadian man was reportedly shot dead during a golf trip in the U.S., multiple local news outlets are reporting.
Giovanni Michael “Mike” Robinson was originally from Stouffville, Ont ., but was living in Pennsylvania, the Ontario Hockey League said in a statement and extended condolences to his family.
Robinson was killed during a drive-by shooting as he was walking back to his hotel, the family told a local radio station in Wisconsin, WTMG .
Jacob Robinson, brother of the victim, told the radio station that he was a “very good man … and was going to be an amazing dad.” Jacob added, ” … now my little niece — she’s only 5 weeks old — and she’s never really going to ever know her true father.”

Amanda and Daniella Apostolakos, cousins of the 32-year-old, in a GoFundMe said that Robinson was “so excited to become a Father, constantly asking family and friends questions and looking for advice to prepare so that he would be ready.” The fundraising page aims to raise US$24,000. The cousins said: “He was the proudest when Farrah (Robinson’s daughter) arrived, showing her off with the biggest smile you could ever imagine.”
A comment purportedly by Robinson’s sister-in-law Jess notes how this has been a “nightmare.” “He was only 32, just had his first baby in August and got a hole-in-one that day,” reads the Facebook comment.
A profile on LinkedIn matching Robinson’s description states he graduated from Ontario Tech University in 2018. “He even spent a year in Germany playing for the Hannover Scorpions,” notes the GoFundMe page.
Robinson’s reported LinkedIn page shows he was the director of design, build and installation at Texas-based The Indoor Golf Shop. “Mike was wonderful,” the company told National Post in an email, “and we at TIGS are all heartbroken by his loss.”
The incident took place early Wednesday morning and is being investigated by the Wisconsin police. Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene. “Despite life saving measures and immediate medical attention, the victim succumbed to their injury,” Sheboygan Falls Police Department said in a statement.
So far, the motive remains unclear and no arrests have been made, officials said.
