Washburn Men's basketball team thankful for community support

0 7

TOPEKA (KSNT) - It's been an unforgettable season for the Washburn Men's Basketball team. With more on the line after advancing to the Elite Eight, this team is looking to win a national championship for the first time since 1987.

"Growing up here, just doing it for this city has been amazing," said sophomore point guard, Jack Bachelor. "We have such a good group of guys, good coaches, just this year has been great so far and we're ready to get to Evansville and try to end it the right way."

With potentially three more games to play, senior forward Andrew Orr says the city backing this team helped them get where they are.

"Not only are the Washburn supporters, but Topeka itself supporting us," Orr said. "That just is like, it's an extra edge that we can play with."

Coach Brett Ballard says the support from the community does not go unnoticed.

"We really appreciate how the city and our fans have embraced this team," Those regional games were as fun of an environment as I've ever coached in and I've been fortunate to be at some really good places, really special places. So for those fans to show out like they did, and come out support this team, we greatly appreciate that."

If you want to see the team off before they head to Indiana for the Elite Eight, you can do that at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 at Lee Arena on Washburn University's campus.
