Evan Mobley could return Monday, but Max Strus will not
The Cavaliers could be getting their best defensive player back on Monday.
Max Strus’s long-awaited return to the Cleveland Cavaliers will not be happening on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets. It was originally expected that he would return Friday against the Washington Wizards. That didn’t happen. Although the Cavs could be getting some reinforcements back as Evan Mobley is listed as probable with an ankle sprain that caused him to miss the second half against the Miami Heat and Friday’s win over Washington.
Strus hasn’t played yet this season. He initially injured his ankle in practice this preseason. Strus has been practicing with the Cavs and the Cleveland Charge recently, but it’s clear that he still isn’t ready for a return just yet.
The Cavs will have three days off once again before their next game after Monday. They play the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers at home on Friday and Saturday. It’s possible that a home debut would make more sense for Strus.
Mobley’s possible return is welcome news for the Cavs. He’s taken a leap offensively this year while anchoring the defense. With Mobley on the floor, the defense has posted a 107.1 defensive rating (81st percentile). Without him, they’ve been dreadful with a 118 defensive rating (22nd percentile).
The Cavs could also be without Craig Porter Jr. who’s questionable with an ankle injury. Porter played with the Charge on Saturday. Jaylon Tyson, who also played with the Charge Saturday, is out with an illness. Emoni Bates and Luke Travers will also be missing the game as both will be with the Charge.
The Nets have a long list of players missing Monday’s game including CamThomas and Bojan Bogdanovic.
