Ken Griffey Jr. will attend Lakers-Wolves with father, hopes to ‘watch history’ with LeBron, Bronny

Along with the normal stars that come out for Lakers games, Ken Griffey Jr. and his father will be in attendance hoping to see history with LeBron James and Bronny.

While it’s become an oft-discussed topic throughout the summer and into the preseason, LeBron and Bronny playing together at some point early this season is a historical feat of great significance.

It might have worn on Lakers or NBA fans to hear it talked about ad naseum at times, but it’s still an unprecedented feat. And it will be something lots and lots of people will turn out and tune in for, including the Griffeys.

Long before LeBron and Bronny were set to take the court this season, Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. did the same on the baseball diamond. In 1990, they became the first father-son duo to play a baseball game together.

With a chance to see similar history made again, the Griffeys will be in attendance for the Lakers-Wolves game on Tuesday, as Ken Griffey Jr. revealed on Monday.

Now, it’s not a given that LeBron and Bronny will play on Tuesday. All indications have been, however, that it will happen very early in the season, if not in the season-opening contest.

Most recently, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the expectation is for the pair to play on Opening Night. Head coach JJ Redick also noted that the team had discussed a plan for the two to play together and that it would happen “sooner than later.”

Nothing is set in stone, but it certainly seems like LeBron and Bronny will play together on Tuesday. At practice on Monday, Bronny said that he didn’t know if he would play on Tuesday but reacted to the news that the Griffeys would be in attendance.

Even by Lakers standards or LeBron standards or any real NBA standards, this is going to be a historic night and quite the spectacle to take in.
