Shams Charania: Sources: The Knicks are signing-and-trading Shake Milton as part of Mikal Bridges/Bojan Bogdanovic trade to the Nets, who will also send Keita Bates-Diop to New York. Milton will sign a three-year, $9 million contract, with over minimum in year one and two non-guaranteed years.

Source confirms NYK’s Shake Milton & Mamadi Diakite will be sent to BKN as part of Mikal Bridges trade. Milton will be a sign & trade, which should get NYK enough total salary to avoid 1st apron hard cap. They had at least 1 other deal lined up entering FA to get out of hard cap – 12:26 PM

It’s been over 5 days since the Mikal Bridges blockbuster trade. Yet, it has not been officially announced. So what’s the hold-up?
I explained why the Knicks package is incomplete and what moves they can make to complete the deal. Full story @ClutchPoints:clutchpoints.com/why-knicks-net…3:16 PM

More on this storyline

The leaguewide belief is that the Jazz would only consider moving Markkanen for a sizable trade package similar to what the Knicks gave up to acquire Mikal Bridges – a player Utah tried to acquire and pair with Markkanen. For context, New York overwhelmed the market for Bridges, who has two years on his contract, by agreeing to trade four unprotected first-round picks, an unprotected pick swap, and a protected first-round pick. Markkanen is owed $18 million this season in the final year of his contract. -via HoopsHype / July 2, 2024
As the Knicks wait to make their big offseason moves official — namely the blockbuster Mikal Bridges trade — Donte DiVincenzo focused on the culture and coach the Knicks already have in place to carry them through any changes. “Whatever team we have, I think we’re going to be very good,” DiVincenzo said. “No matter what happens the rest of the offseason, I think overall everybody is going to come back and get better. I think with [Tom Thibodeau] there’s always a foundation, it doesn’t matter who is on the court. No matter who is on the team, I think we got a sense and we got a taste of what we can do and how we can take that next step. And I think every single person in the organization is going to do everything they can to take that next step.” -via New York Post / July 1, 2024
Ian Begley: As noted entering free agency, NYK had very little interest in trading Miles McBride. In addition to today’s Milton/Diakite deal, Knicks, entering free agency, had at least 1 other deal lined up to avoid hard cap. When they made initial Bridges trade, they felt they’d be able to avoid the hard cap at first apron. They did so with today’s deal and will be hard-capped at second apron ($189M) and be able to spend $5m tax payer midlevel. -via Twitter @IanBegley / July 4, 2024
Yossi Gozlan: Shake Milton can get up to a $3.1 million starting salary from the Knicks via his Non Bird rights. Knicks need to throw in an additional $4.3 million to avoid second apron hard cap, so I think one more minimum sign and trade needs to be included. -via Twitter @YossiGozlan / July 4, 2024
Fred Katz: Tom Thibodeau on if Alec Burks is a possibility: “He could be.” On if Shake Milton is a possibility: “Everyone is a possibility.” -via Twitter @FredKatz / May 8, 2024
