Former North Carolina guard Caleb Love has decommitted from Michigan, per Joe Tipton of On3. Love, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard from St. Louis (MO) originally committed to the Wolverines on April 7.
Love’s decision to transfer, per Tipton, was affected by former Michigan center Hunter Dickinson choosing to transfer to Kansas.
Love instantly becomes a hot portal commodity, as he is ranked No. 16 overall transfer by 247Sports. He’s the fourth highest-rated player in the portal yet to choose a school.
The guard rose to fame for his role in leading North Carolina to the national championship game in 2022. Over the course of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, Love averaged 17.6 points, 2.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game. That included a 30-point game vs. UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen and 28-point game vs. rival Duke in the Final Four.
Love averaged 16.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for North Carolina in 2022-23. The Tar Heels were ranked the preseason No. 1 team but ended up missing the NCAA Tournament.
Formerly, Love was a five-star recruit and the No. 7 overall player in the class of 2020.
