Moment New York City teacher attacks black teen
A New York City teacher has been arrested and charged with endangering a child after he was caught on camera slamming a 14-year-old boy into a wall and then forcefully pushing him to the ground.
Colin McNally, a 58-year-old physical education teacher and boys’ varsity tennis coach got into a physical confrontation with the teen at Benjamin N Cardozo High School, a public school in Bayside, Queens, according to police.
The unnamed teen had been playing basketball in the school’s gym when McNally took the ball away for unspecified reasons.
The boy then tried to grab the basketball back, but McNally instead pulled him by his shirt and shoved him against the wall, video footage of the incident obtained by Eyewitness News shows.
The teen and PE teacher then got into a tussle in the hallway. McNally proceeded to throw the boy to the ground as fellow students and staff looked on in horror. McNally picked the boy back up once again and pushed him back to the wall.
Bystanders are shown in the footage, one of whom appears to try and stop the situation from escalating even further.
‘I pushed a kid against the wall and then I pushed him to the ground,’ McNally said, according to the complaint.
Wednesday’s altercation did not leave the boy hurt, but it did result in McNally’s arrest. The PE teacher was arrested at the school and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment.
He has reportedly since been released. It is unclear whether his employment with the New York City Department of Education will be impacted by the incident.
A spokesperson for the department of education told Eyewitness News: ‘These are incredibly disturbing allegations, and Mr McNally was immediately removed from the classroom away from students, pending the outcome of the investigation.’
