[Women's Basketball] Hawks Break OUAZ's Spirit with Strong Team Offense

0 36

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The San Diego Christian College Hawks will return home from their Arizona swing on a high note, defeating the Ottawa University Spirit by a score of 63-41. The win takes the Hawk record to 7-14 overall and gives them a 4-9 record in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

Ottawa got on the board first, but the game's leading scorer, SDCC's.Maddison Zugna, put the Hawks out in front with a couple of free throws and a quick layup. San Diego Christian would never trail again in the game.

The Hawks team mindset was evident on both sides of the ball. On offense, each of San Diego Christian's five starters would either outscore or equal the best that the Spirit had to offer. In addition to Zugna's game-leading 16 points, forward Isabel Feller would contribute 14, Keren Hogue 11, Madison Beckham 8, and Cynnadie Whatley 7. On defense, SDCC's constant pressure would create 20 turnovers, including 13 steals and 7 blocked shots.

Feller would additionally rack up San Diego Christian's first double-double of the season pairing 12 rebounds with her 14 points.

Head coach Shawn Chaffin was happy with the team's overall performance, "I am really pleased with our effort today. Defensively we were really strong, forcing 20 turnovers and holding them to three full quarters of single-digit scoring. We didn't shoot the ball well, but we made up for it by getting it in the paint and making the most of our trips to the line."
