Season "does not count" eligibility wise for players.....

So, for discussion purpose, let's say Cruthcer, Chatman, Ibi and Tishmanga
all want to return. I know, that's not going to happen. But, if any four current seniors at any school decide to return, and that said school has 4/5 scholarship players coming in next season, how does the roster limit (15 limit?) handle that?
Does the coach have to tell a couple seniors who desire to take advantage of the extra year of eligibility, "sorry, we don't have room, you cant return".
Does coach have to red shirt some/all of entering freshmen if he wants to keep some of those seniors that want to return?
