[Williamson] Williamson Releases Statement on Winter Sports
After extensive meetings and discussions with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), Williamson College of the Trades has decided to cancel the 2020-21 Winter athletic season for their basketball and wrestling programs. All practices and competitions for Williamson's basketball and wrestling programs are officially canceled.
"Similar to the Fall, we worked extensively with our governing bodies for collegiate athletics concerning our Winter sports teams to see if there was a way we could safely provide our students the opportunity to participate in the intercollegiate experience for basketball and wrestling. Based on those discussions and given the ongoing pandemic crisis, we made the decision to cancel things. While we understand the disappointment of our student athletes, coaches, and staff, we make this decision in the best interest of our entire Williamson community, as safety is our top priority," shared longtime Williamson athletic director Dale Plummer. While we are very disappointed yet again for our student-athletes and coaches who will miss out on the experience of playing a collegiate sport this Spring, we are especially sadden for our seniors who will miss their final season.
"While we are saddened by the decision, ultimately the safety of our students and the Williamson community is, and will always be, our highest priority. Williamson will continue to work with NJCAA and the USCAA relative to our Spring athletic programs and will release additional information as the situation develops this Spring."
