[Men's Basketball] MBB Adds depth with two shooting guards

0 45

The Men's Basketball Program has added two shooting guards in Evansville Harrison's Mason Bost and Warren Central High School's Tay Smith. Bost played at William Henry Harrison High School and led his team in scoring with 13.5ppg and 2.5rpg.  The 6'2" Bost was also named Channel 14 player of the week which saw him score 27 points against arch rival Mater Dei.  Bost has great range and will be counted on to help the Bearcats improve on their 33% fg percentage from behind the arc.  Tay Smith played at Warren Central a team that went 26-7 on the season.  The 6'3" senior averaged 11.1 ppg and 4.8rpg.  Smith canned 94 three pointers while shooting 41.6% behind the arc. Smith earned All District honors as well as All Region Tournament honors as Warren Central won the 4th Region Championship and earned a trip back to Rupp before Covid 19 has cancelled the KHSAA State Tournament.

The Bearcats needed to improve their shooting from three point line and Head Coach Brian Skortz comments on the two newest members,"These two players we are excited to see committ to Brescia.  Both can really shoot the three well and hit open looks.  We struggled at times hitting open looks and I feel that we have helped address this area in recruitment.  Bost and Smith are great teammates and are very coachable.  As they continue with their development and adding strength to their frame this summer I am excited to see what they will be able to bring to our program in the fall.  Both young men really improved during their senior years and we are happy to see them coming here to Owensboro."

Further releases on this years recruiting class will continue throughout the month.
