[Men's Basketball] Montreat shoots way past SAU Men's Basketball

LAURINBURG, N.C. – The St. Andrews Men's Basketball team dropped their AAC matchup against Montreat College on Wednesday, 97-75.

How It Happened

Jamaan Bailey put the Knights on the board with a shot from downtown but the Cavaliers followed it up with a three pointer of their own, before Bailey drove in for a basket in the paint.

The Cavaliers' offense picked up and went on an early 11-point run within the first 4 minutes of the game to create a 5-16 game.

 Myron Williams brought the Knights within single digits with a basket in the paint but that did not keep Montreat quiet for long. Montreat managed to create a 13-point lead over the Knights before Bailey knocked down another shot from behind the arc.

Martaye Sembly made a shot from downtown shortly after to cut Montreat's lead to ten points, 20-30.

The Knights made it a 5-point game after another made shot from the post, making the score 30-35.

A shot from Travis Thompson Jr. put the Knights within three points of the Cavaliers, before Isaac Clay drained both of his shots from the charity stripe to put the score at 42-43.

Going into the half, the Knights trailed by 4 with a score of 42-46, with Myron Williams leading the Knights with 14 points.

Josef Vanderhorst was the first to register a basket for the Knights in the second half, keeping the score close at 44-48.

The Cavaliers started off hot once again putting up 13 points compared to SAU's 6 in the first 5 minutes of the half.

Ahmed Gustave got the Knights back on track with a made field goal followed by a shot in the paint by Isaac Clay. Gustave basketed another shot to make the score 54-64.

Three back-to-back 3-pointers by the Cavaliers put the Knights down by 21 with 11 minutes remaining in the game.

St. Andrews' Darryl McCaster recorded the next 5 points for the Knights but Montreat didn't let up as they continued to maintain their high digit lead.

With five and a half minutes remaining, the Knights trailed by 23 and never recovered in the final minutes of the game.

Montreat defeated the Knights with a score of 97-75 and improve to 10-3 overall and 6-3 in the conference, while SAU falls to 3-9 overall and 3-6 in AAC play.

Key Players

Myron Williams dominated the Knights offensively with 19 points, just 2 points shy of his career high.

Jamaan Bailey was also strong offensively with 13 points, recording 3 3-pointers off 7 attempts.

Also recording double-digits was Darryl McCaster with 10 points, going 3 for 7 in the paint and 1 for 2 behind the arc.

Leading the Knights in rebounds was Jozef Vanderhorst with 6, while also collecting 8 points.

The Knights will continue their homestretch as they host Milligan College on January 2nd for a 2 pm tip-off.
