Lakers to open up Las Vegas Summer League against Coby White, Chicago Bulls

0 4

The Lakers will be tested at the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League tournament.

The Los Angeles Lakers unveiled their schedule for this year’s Las Vegas Summer League tournament on Friday, and it revealed that they will open up the tournament against No. 7 overall pick Coby White and the Chicago Bulls on July 5.

White will likely be joined by last year’s No. 7 pick, Wendell Carter Jr., as well as the No. 22 pick in last year’s draft, Chandler Hutchison. Both Carter and Hutchison were limited just 44 games during their rookie campaigns because of injuries.

After facing off against the Bulls, the Lakers will take on their Staples Center roommates, the LA Clippers. Here’s the full schedule below:

The Clippers have a pair of talented second-year players in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Landry Shamet, but if it’s not clear if either of them will play because of the amount of reps they got in their rookie season, which extended into the postseason. Alternatively, Jerome Robinson and Sindarius Thornwell are safe bets to play.

The Lakers will then close out their schedule with games against the Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks. The Knicks selected RJ Barrett with the No. 3 pick on Thursday and barring injury or contractual hold-ups, he’s expected to play alongside Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson. Expect New York to be contenders for this year’s summer league title.

With the exception of maybe their matchup against the Warriors, the Lakers shouldn’t be considered the favorites to win any of their first four games. Luckily for them, the preliminary games don’t determine anything but seeding for when the actual, single-game-elimination tournament starts later in the week.

Here’s to hoping Moe Wagner, Isaac Bonga, Jemerrio Jones — if they’re still aroundTalen Horton-Tucker and the group of undrafted free agents the Lakers are putting together can keep things interesting this summer.
