Improved Stanford women have high hopes entering Pac-12 basketball play
During the nonconference portion of their schedule, the Stanford women gave every indication that they could be a Final Four team.
This is an experienced bunch that has offensive firepower and defensive toughness. Last season, the Cardinal reached the Sweet 16 before being blasted by Louisville. This team looks poised for a deeper run. It’s more athletic, more skilled and overall much improved.
The Cardinal rebounded from a loss at Gonzaga to beat then-No. 3 Baylor at Maples Pavilion and No. 9 Tennessee on the road. Stanford is the only team in the nation with two wins over top-10 teams.
“In preseason, I’ve seen a lot of growth and more determination from people,” head coach Tara VanDerveer said.
