Lakers to sign Tyson Chandler to shore up depth

0 16

JaVale McGee has a new backup.

Things haven’t gone well this year for the Los Angeles Lakers. After starting the season a tepid 3-5, reports swirled that president Magic Johnson ripped into coach Luke Walton for doing a poor job coaching the team.

It’s also as if the team’s poor roster construction matters, and simply adding LeBron James wasn’t enough!

So now the Lakers are trying to improve the roster, and apparently it will come in the form of some much-needed depth at the center position. The Lakers have been starting former Golden State Warriors center JaVale McGee, and he’s been playing very well. But they don’t really have a backup, and have been playing small ball every time McGee is on the bench.

Enter Tyson Chandler. The Phoenix Suns are buying out Chandler’s contract, and he is expected to sign with the Lakers.

Of course, Chandler hasn’t been particularly good as of late, so this isn’t going to be the needle mover the Lakers need to contend with the Warriors in the West. But a little depth should help.
