Tiger Woods delivers the highlight of his comeback season with this hole-out

0

A perfect spinny wedge from 100 yards ignites the crowd in Columbus and gives us the highlight of Woods’ 2018 season so far.

We have the signature highlight of this remarkable Tiger Woods comeback season (so far). Standing just shy of 100 yards out in the fairway at the par-5 11th at the Memorial Tournament on Friday, Woods threw a wedge shot just past the flag. Muirfield Village is soft after some heavy rains this week and Woods is not bad at golf so he knows how much he wants to spin a shot like that. What followed was a slow roll back to a crescendo down in this amphitheater spot at Jack Nicklaus’ tournament.

Woods has definitely executed harder shots and made more impressive plays in critical spots this season. There have been birdie runs and long putts and drives in excess of 350 yards. But we don’t have a dramatic hole-out like that with the corresponding crowd eruption.

Woods may not contend at the Memorial in the way he did at some of the earlier events this season but he’s making a move after an ugly opening nine on Thursday morning. This hole-out eagle is a quick way to shoot up the leaderboard and at 5-under, he’s now inside the top 20.

Following that hole-out wedge, he then stuffed it inside six feet on the 166-yard par-3 12th. His “feels” appear to be there right now.

After opening with an ugly 39 on Thursday, he’s now posted consecutive 33s in his next two nines. His even-par first round was an impressive grind following the wild start to the tournament.

Now this eagle opens his next nine and it’s likely he’s inside the top 10 by the 36-hole mark if he stays in this kind of form. We’re in for a fun weekend at Muirfield Village.
