Eagles didn’t give us one single dang touchdown celebration in Super Bowl LII
This was a spectacular win for the Eagles, but they let us down on the celebration front.
The Eagles led the league in quality touchdown celebrations this season. But they didn’t give us a single dang choreographed celebration in their thrilling win over the Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
Alshon Jeffery scored the first touchdown of the game on a 34-yard pass from Nick Foles. LeGarrette Blount rumbled for 21 yards to score the Eagles’ second touchdown of the day against his former team, but Philly skipped a group celebration that time, too. That 28-3 lead the Falcons blew in Super Bowl LI must have been fresh in their minds.
When the clock ticked to zero and the Eagles had officially won, Nick Foles has thrown for three touchdowns and he also caught one from tight end Trey Burton on a flawless trick play. Blount added the one on the ground. Plus, the Eagles’ defense pretty much sealed the win with a late-game sack and forced fumble on Tom Brady. And yet not one single celebration dance was seen on Sunday night.
We were looking forward to what kind of shenanigans the Eagles might get up to after big plays because of the celebrations we saw from this squad during the season.
They had a couple of baseball-themed ones during the regular season, including this one, where Torrey Smith knocked one out of the park.
And Jeffery lined his teammates up for this perfectly timed and executed bowling celebration.
Jeffery told reporters during the week leading up to the Super Bowl that the team doesn’t practice the dances ahead of time.
“We just come up with stuff from what we see in movies and other things, our experiences from life,” he said, via Keith Groller of The Morning Call. “The first thing we said we’d do off a big run was the bowling ball. Then with a big pass play, we were going to do a home run. We just started to roll with it.”
Jeffery’s favorite celebration of the season didn’t even involve him. It was the Eagles defense’s version of the Electric Slide.
Everyone loved this one. That’s why the Eagles won Celebration of the Year for it at Saturday’s NFL Honors awards show.
We thought the Eagles might top all of this in the Super Bowl, but no such luck. But they did get to hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in team history, which probably makes up for it.
