TCU vs. Oklahoma 2017 live stream: Time and TV schedule for Fox's Saturday night game

0

These teams could easily rematch in the Big 12 Championship.

Perhaps the biggest regular season game in the Big 12 takes place this Saturday when the No. 6 TCU Horned Frogs (8-1) travel to Norman and take on the No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners (8-1). The game is scheduled for kickoff at 8 p.m. ET on FOX (live stream on Fox Sports Go).

Both teams are sitting right on the fringe of the College Football Playoff, and a win here would give either side a crucial boost to its resume. Oklahoma still has the better non-conference win after knocking off Ohio State in early September, and both teams own wins over No. 15 Oklahoma State. Whichever team comes away with the victory will have the inside track to the regular-season conference title and likely be favored in the Big 12 Championship.

Speaking of the conference title, the Big 12 is bringing back its championship game, and with both teams sitting comfortably at the top of the standings, this game could end up being a rematch in a few weeks with a possible Playoff spot on the line. The stakes keep getting higher as November rolls on.

Last week’s Bedlam game between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State certainly lived up to its name with Baker Mayfield throwing for 598 yards and five touchdowns in a wildly entertaining 62-52 win for the Sooners. Mayfield is the new frontrunner in the Heisman race, overcoming his team’s questionable defense to keep the Sooners in the Playoff hunt.

The Horned Frogs recovered from their loss to Iowa State by dispatching Texas in a workmanlike 24-7 victory. TCU did it with its running game, chewing up the Longhorns’ defense with 177 yards and three touchdowns on 46 carries. The Horned Frogs also boast one of the country’s best defenses, currently ranked third in S&P+. Slowing down Mayfield might be their biggest test of the season, though.

TCU vs. Oklahoma news

Now, it might be unprecedented, but if Baker Mayfield does indeed win the Heisman, his most iconic moment may actually end up being from Week 2 in Columbus. While it certainly was a masterful performance by Mayfield, carving up the vaunted Buckeye defense was not the headliner from that night. The flag plant heard ‘round the college football world remains the single most discussed moment of Mayfield’s Heisman worthy season. Whether you were a fan of it or not, it cannot be denied it was a moment unlike any other.

S/P+ projects this as a 31-30 OU win, a coin flip slightly in favor of the home team. Iowa State, Kansas State, and OSU all put up more points against OU and allowed more points from OU than TCU did on either side of the ball. If TCU’s defense can limit Baker and the Boys to anything less than an otherworldly performance, TCU should have an opportunity to control the ball and get that last stop that has eluded them for a few years now.

TCU vs. Oklahoma prediction

TCU has the better defense, while Oklahoma has the better quarterback. That alone makes this a fascinating matchup, and it’ll be interesting to see which side blinks first. Ultimately, I’ll give the edge to the home team, but the Horned Frogs won’t make it easy by any stretch. Oklahoma wins by a field goal, and we get hyped up for a possible rematch in the conference title game.
