NBA Summer League schedule 2017: Times, TV channels, and live stream for Monday
Fultz and Jayson Tatum will square off in the first game of the NBA’s Utah Summer League. Fultz vs. the Celtics. That should be fun.
The NBA Utah Summer League will go into full swing on Monday as the Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and Utah Jazz are the four teams competing in Utah. Coverage of the Utah Jazz Summer League begins 7 p.m. ET July 3 on NBA TV. You can also watch the games online at WatchESPN.
All four teams will play against one another over a four-day period at the Huntsman Basketball Facility, which is located at the University of Utah campus. Each team will play one another once over a four-day period.
The first game of the evening, which is arguably the most-anticipated matchup, is between the 76ers point guard Markelle Fultz and Celtics forward Jayson Tatum at 7 p.m. Boston originally had the No. 1-overall pick but decided to trade that selection to Philadelphia, giving up the opportunity to draft Fultz. The 76ers gave up their 2017 and 2018 draft picks to trade up.
This could be a revenge game for Fultz — many expected Boston to draft him, but the Celtics went a different route. Instead, Philadelphia used its first pick on Fultz, a prolific scorer who can drain open shots, drive to the hoop, and nail difficult shots over taller opponents.
Tatum, the No. 3 pick, is also a great scorer with versatility and size. Fans of both teams will get the opportunity to see how both players will fare against NBA talent. Many fans believe Fultz is the missing piece the 76ers needed. Even with players like Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Dario Saric, Philadelphia needed someone who can provide consistent perimeter scoring. Fultz should give fans a glimpse of how talented of a scorer he is.
Boston, which had the best record in the Eastern Conference this past season, has the pieces to compete in the finals. However, it needed another scorer who could take the pressure off point guard Isaiah Thomas. Tatum fits the bill. He is a physical wing player who can score from almost anywhere on the court.
After Philadelphia and Boston lock horns, the Spurs and Jazz will collide at 9 p.m. The Spurs’ summer league roster will consists of Davis Bertans, Dejounte Murray, and Bryn Forbes— all second-year players. The Jazz’s roster will feature Dante Exum, the fifth pick in the 2014 NBA draft. Exum only averaged 6.2 points in 66 games with Utah last season. Donovan Mitchell, the 13th pick in this year’s draft, will join Exum in summer league action.
The 2017 NBA Utah Summer League will consist players who have the potential to blossom into great NBA players. These games should give fans an idea of each player’s strengths and weakness.
