Cavaliers to make Kyle Korver an offer when free agency begins

0

The Cavaliers front office might have nobody at the helm, but they’re still making plans.

The Cavaliers still don’t have a GM, as you may be aware. Chauncey Billups still has not been hired after over a week since his name was brought up as a candidate to replace the departed David Griffin, but that doesn’t mean the Cavaliers haven’t been conducting business in the meantime.

We’ve heard that the team has still been active with assistant GM Koby Altman running calls with Dan Gilbert closely involved (when he’s not visiting the White House with the Chicago Cubs, for some reason), and the Cavaliers seem to have a plan for their free agents too.

Joe Vardon is reporting that the Cavaliers are expected to make an offer to free agent Kyle Korver when free agency begins at 12:01 Eastern Time tonight. This is encouraging, as the team at least has enough of a direction to have a plan for free agency without somebody at the helm.

Korver was great for the Cavaliers in the regular season but his production definitely dipped a bit in the postseason, shooting 39 percent from three, which was below his 45 percent mark for the year.

The report also indicated that the team was closely monitoring Carmelo Anthony buyout talks, but those certainly seem less likely with the ouster of Phil Jackson.
