Trade Deadline Scenarios
I stumbled on an article today from another site, and was wondering what the more enlighten readers of DRaysBay thought - http://rayscoloredglasses.com/2017/05/23/tampa-bay-rays-possible-moves-trade-deadline/
Personally, I can see us trading Cobb and a catcher at the deadline and getting a few prospects back, but as has already been discussed on this site, it is doubtful we'll get a "top prospect" back. I could also see us trading Rameriz if the return is relatively good, given the surplus of pitching we should have by July.
The possibility of trading Miller though has me scratching my head, because I just can't see anyone wanting him this year. His OBP is nice, but his batting average, slugging percentage, and defensive lapses suggest to me that there will be no takers for his services this summer unless he heats up quick (which I'm doubtful is going to occur). With Robertson outplaying him and Adames and Duffy on the horizon (shifting TBex to 2B), I was even wondering if the Rays would consider not resigning him this Winter, assuming his stats don't show improvement. He apparently still has options available, so that's always a possibility.
A more intriguing question is whether the Rays would be both buyer and seller at the deadline, trading the aforementioned players and bringing in an MLB ready player that could help both this year's team and future teams. If that were to happen, what position would we target for improvement? Second Base seems like the logical place to start or a better complement to Morrison at 1B than Weeks, but what the Rays really need is for their best players to play better and more consistently (e.g., Longo, Souza, and KK). I know health has been an issue with all three, so hopefully the better play/consistency are coming (and it appears with Longo and KK that it may have arrived).
