Rangers sign Drew Stubbs to minor-league contract

Stubbs gives Texas outfield depth with Carlos Gomez (hamstring) expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

The Rangers have signed outfielder Drew Stubbs to a minor-league contract and optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Stubbs, 32, spent spring training with the Twins before being released in late March. He latched on with the Giants in early April but was granted free agency back on May 10 after hitting a disgustingly bad .091/.167/.091 across 24 plate appearances.

With the Rangers expected to be without Carlos Gomez for 4-6 weeks due to a strained hamstring, Stubbs will give the Rangers some organizational depth in case anyone else goes down. Outfielder Jared Hoying has been promoted from Triple-A.

Stubbs spent part of last season with Texas, batting .300/.400/.600 with two home runs, three RBI, and four stolen bases across 25 plate appearances.
