RR Fantasy Baseball League 2017
Given no one volunteered to be commissioner, I’ve stepped in as I’m keen to seen this happen. I’ve not done a H2H league before, though the general sentiment was to try this out, and using points seems was mentioned, and has intrigued me. I’m game for this, and am inclined to determine the categories and related points using wOBA for hitters and a simplified Gamescore for pitchers.
Specifically, linear weights for wOBA calculation are ~0.7 for walks and HBP, 0.9 for singles, 1.3 for doubles, 1.6 for triples, and 2.1 for HR. Rounding the walks up to full points (*1.43) and rounding the results gets the following: BB/HBP/1B = 1 point, 2B/3B = 2 points, HR = 3 points. This can be simplified by making BB = 1, H = 1, XBH = 1, and HR = 1 as XBH and HR will count in multiple categories. I also threw SB in there as they’re fun, and that’s worth something.
For pitchers, I’m basing this on a simplified version of Gamescore, without adding 50. Roughly translated, this means IP = 4, K = 1, H = -2, ER = -4, BB = -1. This doesn’t translate cleanly, and I’m also going to poke around to ensure that total points for pitchers should roughly equal total points for batters.
In addition, I feel like saves should also be present for pitchers to general expectation, which I’ve assigned to 2 points in order to account for the additional leverage involved, though I’m also not in love with the idea. To compensate for the additional category in pitching, I’ve also added RBI on the hitters side.
I’m not wed to any of this (especially saves/RBI), though I’m pretty keen on the general concept of tailoring the points to actually measuring the contribution of the players instead of wins and their variants. Any suggestions on how to modify the scoring would be welcomed.

Edit: Based on examinations of a variety of 'better' players, I've adjusted the penalty for allowing hits for pitchers to -1 instead of -2 in order to put pitchers and hitters on similar ground.
