Dunning earns the Dub [Kannapolis - Asheville 18 April recap]
Kanny visited Asheville earlier in the season than usual, which was probably a good thing if I wanted to see Dane Dunning pitch for the Intimidators. Although his outing wasn't as gaudy as his previous start (13 strike outs!!!), his command was no less impressive. The only solid contact occurred when hitters correctly guessed and swung at a first pitch fastball. The longer the Tourists flailed at the plate, the poorer the contact, if any at all. It was also interesting to note that opposing hitters had a more difficult time during their second look at Dunning. He only pitched six innings, but recorded a two strike-out inning in both the fifth and sixth, when the Tourists threatened with base runners in scoring position. No sense of panic, just confidence in his control and pitches. He also picked off a runner at first base in the second inning and nearly had another picked off later in the game.

While the bullpen was mostly uninspiring, Mike Morrison looked impressive with two strike-outs and a weak pop-up to end the game.
After the game we strolled toward the Kanny dug-out to congratulate the players on the victory. One of the guys handed my son a bat for a souvenir!
He really WAS thrilled with the souvenir!
