[Men's Basketball] Griffis Named to All-American Team

Rochester College men's basketball senior Angelo Griffis was rewarded for his hard work on the floor by the NAIA on Thursday by being named 2016-2017 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Third Team All-American.    The All-American teams are selected by the NAIA All-American Committee and only the top 10 players in the nation are named to each of the First, Second and Third teams.  He joins Stavros Schizas (Honorable Mention in 2013-14), Dramell Hogan (Third Team in 2012-13) and Drew Maynard (Honorable Mention in 2012-13) as the only Warriors chosen to the All-American teams in RC's short time in the NAIA.

Griffis led the Warriors to a 29-3 overall record and second appearance to the NAIA National Tournament since Rochester College joined the NAIA in 2012.  His 21.2 points per game average led the team and was 14th overall in the NAIA.  He shot 51.4% from the field including connecting on 82 of his 212 three point attempts (38.7%) and shot 75% from the free throw line.  He had a season high of 31 points against Lincoln Christian University in November and scored at least 20 points in 21 of his 32 games.  He also averaged just under eight rebounds per contest including a season high 14 rebounds on three different occasions.  His best statistical night came in the Lincoln Christian game where he scored 31 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, had 4 steals and dished out 2 assists.

Griffis leaves the Warriors averaging 19.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game over his two years at RC.  His overall win-loss record as a Warrior is 53-10.  Head Coach, Klint Pleasant speaks highly of his senior.

"He does so many things well and we've been fortunate to have him in our program," Pleasant said of Griffis.  "We counted on his leadership and his motor. He's a true competitor. What I'm most proud of though, is how much Angelo has grown off the floor and in the classroom. He's become a good student and someone we point to as a model student athlete. He is truly a special young man and we've enjoyed a special connection throughout the past few years. He's left his mark on our program for years to come."
