Finding Quality Vibes In South Beach
Taking the hill in game two of the three-game series with the Miami Marlins (16-21) on Wednesday was RHP Brandon Young (3-1). Despite a rough first inning, Young provided the Orioles a quality start that led to the team’s 7-4 win over Miami.
Young recorded two outs in the bottom of the first before allowing the next five Marlins’ batters to reach base (3 hits, 2 walks) and score 3 runs as a result. He proceeded to retire 16 of the next 18 batters on his way to a 6.0 inning effort. Young allowed 3 runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts to record the win, his third of the season.
Grant Wolfram allowed Miami’s fourth run on a pair of hits in two-thirds of the seventh inning. Anthony Nunez (1.1 IP, K) and Rico Garcia (1.0 IP, BB, K) finished out the game with Garcia recording his second save of ’26. Garcia punctuated the save with a game-ending swinging strikeout of Miami’s Javier Sanoja.
The Orioles opened the scoring with a first inning three-run homerun by Pete Alonso, his seventh of the season. The blast travelled 407 ft. to left center field and was his only hit in 5 at-bats.
Back-to-back two-out doubles by Leody Taveras and Dylan Beavers led to a run in the fourth inning. Adley Rutschman‘s two out RBI double scored Taylor Ward who had reached base on a walk in the fifth.
In the seventh inning Rutschman once again doubled home Ward on his way to a 2 for 3 night with a pair of doubles, 1 run scored, 2 RBI and a walk.
Samuel Basallo led off the eighth inning with a single and scored on Blaze Alexander‘s two-out triple.
As eager as the Orioles probably were to leave the Bronx, they may be just as eager to extend their stay in South Beach.
