Players to keep an eye on in the Florida Coast League Orioles Rookie Team
The FCL Orioles season starts up on May 2nd which means we should see a roster soon on the website. It’s always interesting to see who comes over from the DSL and who repeats. Until we get that roster, here are few guys that are interesting that should start the year here:
Infielders:
Jaiden Lo Re (SS) – Orioles 5th round pick in the last draft out of high school, wasn’t able to make a full season club but should be the priority play at SS. Last year DJ Layton bombed in the FCL under similiar circumstances but has rebuilt his stock in Delmarva this year.
Elvin Garcia (INF) – Highly thought of coming out of the DSL, he struggled through his first FCL season last year and was not able to make Delmarva this year. There’s talent in the bat though.
Emilio Sanchez (INF) – Signed for $1.3 million in 2025, Sanchez has disappointed with the bat in the DSL over two seasons, so it’s doubtful they keep him back. He’ll probably need to sink or swim in the FCL.
Wilfi De La Cruz (SS) – Acquired from the Cubs last year for Andrew Kittredge, De La Cruz was given a $2.3 million signing bonus by the Cubs in 2025 and he put up a .865 OPS in his DSL season last year at 17-years old.
Jermone Nuel (INF) – An on base machine in the DSL last year, Nuel will see if that translates to the FCL.
Outfielders:
Starlin Mieses – Was the DSL Blacks best hitter last year at 17-years old and hopefully will make the transition to states well. Should see some time in Delmarva after the the FCL season ends if he does well.
Lisandro Sanchez – Similar to Mieses, Sanchez had a good year last year playing at 17-years old and should get his opportunity this year in the states.
Cam Lee – Orioles 9th round pick out of Junior College has yet to make his pro debut but should start the year here. He’s 20 years old so if he gets off to a good start, he could make his way to Delmarva quickly.
