Puerto Rico announce roster for Women's Baseball World Cup qualification series with Canada
The Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico (FBPR) announced a 20-player roster for the best-of-five series against World No. 3 Canada that will send the winner to the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Group Stage 2026. No. 9 Puerto Rico will host the series from April 29 to May 3 at the Roberto Clement Walker Stadium in Carolina.
Manager Carlos Ferrer will count on veteran pitchers Janiliz Rivera, Angelis Rivera and Danna González, who will lead a staff of eight, including rookies Yedlimar de Jesús, Fabiana Ortiz, Nashaliz Agosto and Daniela Figueroa.
The roster will also include two catchers, five infielders and five outfielders. Infielders Valeria Negrón and Lara Rodríguez and outfielder Aneyshka Aponte will also make their National Team debut.
"There's a lot of talent on this team," commented Carlos Ferrer. "We have a good combination of youth and experience. This team can hit, and we have a solid defence."
WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup 2026/2027 Qualification Process
The Women's Baseball World Cup is a two-stage event with 12 participating teams split into two groups of six teams in the first stage and the top three finishers of each group advancing to the Final Stage.
No. 28 Great Britain became the first team to qualify for the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup 2026/2027 Group Stage after winning the European Championship in August 2025.
WBSC Americas announced that World No. 4 Venezuela, No. 6 Mexico and No. 9 Cuba earned three of the continental four spots through the Women's Baseball Pan American Championship.
World No. 1 Japan. No. 5 Chinese Taipei, No. 8 Hong Kong, China, and No. 10 Korea secured their spots in the VI BFA Women's Baseball Asia Cup.
World No. 10 Australia will represent Oceania.
World No. 2 USA qualified as a group host with one wildcard to be confirmed.
Japan are the seven-time defending Women's Baseball World Champions.
Groups
Rockford (IL, USA), will host the first of the two groups from July 22 to 27 with Tainan (Taiwan) hosting the second group from August 23 to 27.
