Per New York Post’s Mike Puma, Francisco Alvarez said he hopes to represent Venezuela in the next World Baseball Classic. Continuing on Alvarez, NJ.com’s Max Goodman tweets that Alvarez exited Thursday night’s game with back tightness, which manager Carlos Mendoza described as precautionary. The Athletic’s Will Sammon adds that Alvarez said he would have continued playing if it were the regular season.
Earlier yesterday, longtime Mets broadcaster Howie Rose announced his retirement from the booth once the 2026 season concludes. Jay Horwitz writes a blog post about Rose’s retirement. Team owners Steve and Alex Cohen released a statement about Rose’s retirement, praising his work and contributions to the franchise.
