Howie Rose to Retire After 2026 Season

Mets broadcaster and Mets Hall of Fame inductee Howie Rose will retire after the 2026 season. He has called Mets games as the play-by-play man since 1995 and, in recent years, has had to cut back his workload due to health issues. Before serving as the “voice of the Mets,” Howie hosted the Mets Extra pre- and post-game shows and worked in the Mets’ television broadcast booth from 1987 to 1994. He took over as the radio voice of the Mets following the retirement of Bob Murphy.

Howie has worked with many partners in his Mets career, including Tom McCarthy, Wayne Hagin, Josh Lewin, Wayne Randazzo and since 2023 he has called games with Keith Raad.

Outside of baseball, he has worked as a play-by-play radio announcer for the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders, worked for Fox NHL Saturday, MLB on Fox, and called Long Island Blackbird basketball and soccer games. He also frequently serves as the master of ceremonies for on-field events for the Mets. In 2013, he released his autobiography, Put it in the Book.

Will Sammon of the Athletic immediately voiced his praise of Howie’s career writing, “Howie Rose is everything you want in a broadcaster. Prepared. Honest. Insightful. Curious. Informed. Entertaining. Every time, he meets the moment.”

After 2026, Howie will officially “put it in the books!”

“I’ve got two things on my bucket list – meeting Paul McCartney and/or Ringo Starr and calling the final out of a Mets World Series championship,” Rose said.
