NFL Today: 2026 NFL Draft Preview
This week, Denver beefed up its offense by trading for WR Jaylen Waddle from Miami; Philadelphia got the field stretcher it needed by signing WR Hollywood Brown; and former Notre Dame basketball player Carson Towt is the newest hoopster to try to become a TE in the NFL after being signed by KC. Other Fantasy football related stories we’re following include…
Could the Eagles Add to Their WR Room?
When we last checked in on the Philadelphia Eagles in early October, they were off to a 4-1 start and doing just fine. Well, the rest of the season had its challenges – including a three-game skid – but a 7-5 mark from then on still allowed the Eagles to finish 11-6 and easily win the NFC East for the second straight time.
Okay, so Philly wasn’t able to come close to duplicating its 14-win, Super Bowl championship effort from 2024, but that wasn’t a huge shock. And yes, losing in the Wild Card round had to sting after that magical season, but still, a fifth straight playoff appearance is an impressive feat.
And even after free agency, the Eagles’ roster is mostly the same. The team remains of the NFL’s favourites to win the Super Bowl next season, so let’s not shed any tears for them just yet.
Among the biggest free agent losses for Philadelphia was LB Nakobe Dean, who’s leaving for Las Vegas. So it might make sense that the Eagles use the 23rd pick in the draft to target an edge rusher. Or, perhaps they want to keep adding to their wide receiver room. On Wednesday, they were scheduled to meet Indiana WR Omar Cooper Jr., a player expected to go right around when Philly picks.
Originally thought to be a third round candidate, he’s been gaining major traction and is now very close to being a first round lock. Cooper has gotten better each year, and after a junior season in which he flirted with 70 receptions and 1,000 yards, he’s getting a lot more attention. Check out the video below to get a sense of how shifty, elusive and gritty he is.
This kid can excel against zone defenses, and has the toughness and strong character to earn snaps early in his NFL career, ultimately developing into a very dependable Fantasy asset and above average starter (think Deebo Samuel).
What Will Arizona Do at No. 3?
In November, the Arizona Cardinals’ sweet 2-0 start had turned sour with a five-game skid. And while they did manage to win that MNF matchup to end the losing streak, that was Arizona’s final win of the season. It dropped its next nine games to finish 3-14, a massive disappointment after the team showed some life in 2024 with eight wins.
So make that four straight seasons out of the playoffs now.
The good news is that such an ugly campaign earned the Cardinals the third overall pick in the draft. And while Arizona could definitely use a new QB now that it sent Kyler Murray packing, other than Fernando Mendoza (expected to go first overall), no other quarterbacks are really worth a top 20 pick.
So perhaps the smartest play for Arizona is to improve the offensive line for when it ultimately does acquire its next long-term QB option. That could mean that Utah OT Spencer Fano will be the Cards’ pick at No. 3. It makes sense given that at +12500, he has the fifth highest odds to go first overall as per FanDuel.
While we’ve seen Fano dropping outside the top 15 picks in some mocks, he’s one of the best offensive tackles in this draft, so we’ve got a hard time believing he will even slip outside the top five, never mind the top 15.
He is gifted with quick feet and great agility, and while there is some belief he may be better used as a guard in the NFL, we’re still viewing him as a long-term option at tackle.
