Sports Briefs: Ruiz powers up with homer in COM baseball victory

Adrian Ruiz homered and doubled during College of Marin’s 14-6 victory over Napa in Kentfield on Friday afternoon.

Andrew Gamble hit a two-run double during the Mariners’ five-run third inning, and Aiden Romero followed with a double for two RBIs in the fourth inning. Sebastian Elsner got he win in relief with three shutout innings, scattering six hits with two strikeouts and a walk for COM (11-7), which is scheduled to visit Contra Costa on Tuesday.

Girls swimming

Archie Williams High had a strong showing with victories over San Rafael, 157-16, and Marin Catholic, 109-52, in Friday’s tri-meet. The Peregrine Falcons got wins from Taylor Fahy (200 free), Zoe Cass Lein (100 back), Elsa Kastner (100 fly), Holly Hovey (50 free), Paige Fredrickson (200 IM) and Sylvie Fine (500 free). Marin Catholic’s Esme Quan won the 100 free and 100 back.

Boys swimming

Archie Williams High had three double-winners as the Peregrine Falcons beat San Rafael, 108-22, and Marin Catholic, 90-65, in Friday’s tri-meet. The Falcons got wins from Zane Shurman (200 free, 500 free), Nolan Anderson (50 free, 100 free) and Zayne Wachelka (200 IM, 100 breast).

Girls lacrosse

Sophomore Maxine Bussi struck for four goals to lead Terra Linda to a 8-2 home victory over Windsor on Thursday. Mia Elkington added two goals for the Trojans (1-1, 1-0), who got a goal and two assists from Josie Campo. Ruby Vree also scored for Terra Linda.

Women’s lacrosse

Ryan Bionda netted four goals and an assist as Dominican University wrapped up the home portion of its 2026 schedule with a 13-5 win over Saginaw Valley on Friday. Morgan Newkirk had a pair of goals and an assist.Taylor Pieri scored and added an assist, while Kyra Evans scored as the Penguins (5-1) celebrated Senior Day.

Men’s lacrosse

Dominican University sophomore Will Elfline continued his hot streak with 10 goals in two days, but the Penguins fell 11-9 to Northwest Nazarene on Friday in San Rafael. Elfin netted a game-high five goals for the Penguins (0-5, 0-2), who also got two goals each from Calvin Welsh and Cole Soper.

Women’s golf

Dominican University secured the championship Friday after two days at the RCA Electric Spring Invitational at Coyote Creek Golf Club. The Penguins’ Cristen Faith Legaspi tied for fourth place at 17-over par with back-to-back rounds of 77. Madi Whitney tied for sixth at 21 over par.
