Morning Briefing: Mets Announce More Theme and Heritage Games

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets announced their theme and heritage games from April to June this year. Of note, the team is hosting Star Wars night on May 14, where fans can receive a Nolan McLean Mandalorian themed bobblehead. Among the other theme games on the schedule are First Responders Appreciation Night (April 23) and Puerto Rican Heritage Night (June 9).

Manager Carlos Mendoza announced on Friday that Freddy Peralta will be the Mets’ Opening Day starter. This sets up a matchup in the first game of the season between Peralta and Paul Skenes of the Pirates. This will be the fifth straight year the Mets have had a new starter on Opening Day; Clay Holmes took the mound for the Mets’ first game a season ago.

Peralta shined in his first appearance in a Mets uniform, tossing three perfect innings on just 29 pitches as the Mets crushed the Cardinals 14-3. MJ Melendez also stood out as he hit two home runs, both to the opposite field.

Grae Kessinger, an infielder in spring training with the Mets, suffered a left knee injury that “didn’t look too good,” according to Carlos Mendoza.
