Morning Briefing: Baty, Vientos to See Plenty of Time at First in 2026

Good morning, Mets fans!

Carlos Mendoza said in a press conference that the DH spot will play in “big time” as the Mets try to keep Jorge Polanco healthy in 2026. He noted that Mark Vientos and Brett Baty will likely get playing time at first base as we’ve seen in spring practices, while Polanco will DH some games.

After dropping their spring opener to the Marlins on Saturday, the Mets are back in action with their first road matchup on Sunday with a 1:10 p.m. ET start time against the New York Yankees.

According to Max Goodman of NJ.com, Justin Hagenman will start Sunday’s matchup against the Yankees in Tampa. Clay Holmes and Tobias Myers will throw on Monday against the Blue Jays.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com talked to Francisco Lindor, who noted that he had a large wrap removed from his left hand that was operated on and has been upgraded to just a small bandage. While he is still not able to engage in baseball activities, he said that “little by little,” he’s getting there.

Per the New York Post, George M. Steinbrenner Field is dealing with a big sewage issue that could create a smelly mess for the Subway Series spring opener in Tampa on Sunday. According to USA Today, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said it is all over the Yankees’ clubhouse.
