Christian Scott Ramping Up for 2026 Return

0 1

On the first day of full squad practice at Clover Park, all eyes were on Christian Scott. The 26-year-old last appeared in the bigs in his rookie season in 2024, but his debut year was cut short with Tommy John surgery.

Now healthy, Scott faced Mets hitters in live batting practice on Monday, striking out two, including Juan Soto on a fastball that topped out at 95 mph.

Scott’s fastball was in the zone, and his off-speed and breaking pitches had good movement, forcing a lot of swings and misses from the top of the Mets’ lineup.

Carlos Mendoza spoke on Scott’s performance and said it was good to see him out on the mound looking healthy.

“It’s all about health. And he looks healthy today,” said Mendoza. “The cutter is a pitch now, and it looks really good. We gotta build him up, but it was good to see him back out there on the mound competing, and being himself this early.”

Scott also reflected on his performance with the media after facing hitters like Marcus Semien, Soto, and Jorge Polanco, noting that he asked for their feedback because of how much he respects them.

“I haven’t really thrown the cutter and changeup a lot so far to hitters, so just getting feedback on how it looks out of the hand, how the hand speed was; those are unbelievable hitters who have been in the league a long time so any kind of feedback you get those guys is something I’m going to take with me,” he said.

Hitters told Scott that the fastball had really good life, and the cutter and changeup were deceptive.

“I feel like I can get anybody out at this level when my stuff is on and I’m competing in the strike zone,” he said.

While Scott will likely start the season in Triple-A Syracuse, he certainly made a case for the Mets to use him more in 2026 than they may have planned to on Monday.
