Mets Sign OF Mike Tauchman

0 3

Another outfielder has entered the conversation for the New York Mets. Per Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the New York Mets signed OF Mike Tauchman to a minor league deal on Monday.

Fresh off officially signing MJ Melendez to a split contract, the Mets add an additional puzzle piece as they construct their outfield alignment for 2026. With Juan Soto‘s shift from right to left field and the addition of Luis Robert Jr. at center, right field is now open to a group of Brett Baty, Carson Benge, Tyrone Taylor, Melendez and now Tauchman.

Tauchman, 35, quietly enjoyed a successful year with the White Sox in 2025. He posted a .263/.356/.400 (.756 OPS) line across 93 games, where he hit nine home runs, 17 doubles and more notably had an 11.7% walk percentage rate (84th percentile). In addition, he was a league-average outfielder (0 OAA). Tauchman has a .360 OBP over the last three seasons, ranking in at least the top six percentiles in 2023 and 2024.

At best, Tauchman gives the Mets another outfield option who can get on base and not chase (23.8% chase percentage). His 2025 chase percentage would have been third-best on the 2025 Mets roster, behind Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo (24.2%)

A career .246/.347/.380 hitter, Tuchman’s bounced between the Yankees, Cubs, Rockies, Giants and White Sox since debuting in 2017.
