Phillies reportedly bringing back veteran reliever Lou Trivino on minor league deal
The Phillies are re-signing righty veteran reliever Lou Trivino, according to a report from The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. It’s a minor league deal with an invite to MLB spring training.
Trivino wrapped up his 2025 season with the Phillies after signing a minor league deal in early August. Off a strong stint with the IronPigs, he debuted for the Phillies on Aug. 27, enjoying a solid month-plus in which he surrendered two earned runs on six hits in nine innings, with eight strikeouts. The Slippery Rock, Pa. native also stranded all five of his inherited runners. Trivino didn’t make the Phillies’ NLDS roster.
Righties hit .221/.308/.308 at the big league level against Trivino last season, which included 26 appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers after 11 (rockier) ones with the San Francisco Giants. It was his first MLB action since 2022. His fastball velocity (sinker and four-seam), for whatever it’s worth, dropped by less than a mile per hour each between those two seasons.
Now 34, Trivino will serve as depth for a bullpen that looks much deeper heading into the 2026 season, particularly from the right side: Jhoan Duran returns as closer, Brad Keller is a late-inning bridge, Orion Kerkering is a strong No. 3 righty and Jonathan Bowlan is likely the early frontrunner for one of the few open spots.
A host of other names, including the recently re-signed Daniel Robert, will be competing in spring training for standing in the pecking order. Add Trivino to the mix.
