Ranger Suárez has finally landed with a new team.

He has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Boston Red Sox, per a report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The deal is worth five years, $130 million, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. The deal also includes no opt-outs and no deferrals.

One of the longest-tenured Phillies is moving on. Suárez, 30, made his MLB debut in 2018 and broke out as a reliever turned starter in 2021, when he posted a 1.36 ERA in 106 innings. He has since been a mainstay in the Phillies rotation.

The Phillies had interest in extending Suárez in 2024, but the two sides never came to an agreement. The lefty hired agent Scott Boras last offseason and the Phillies traded for Jesús Luzardo, significantly lowering the chances of the two sides extending their partnership beyond 2025.

He’ll be remembered for his relaxed demeanor on the mound and epic playoff performances, from coming out of the bullpen to save the Game 5 clincher in the 2022 NLCS to piggybacking off of Aaron Nola to keep the Phillies alive in Game 3 of this year’s NLDS.

In an ideal world, the Phillies would have loved to retain him, but the club prioritized other areas of the roster this offseason in re-signing Kyle Schwarber and potentially J.T. Realmuto. The Phillies are also pursuing Bo Bichette.

Make no mistake: they will miss him. The Phillies will instead count on prospect Andrew Painter and others to fill the void.
