Morning Briefing: Mets, Blue Jays Reportedly Make Tucker Offers
Good morning, Mets fans!
Per ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the Mets have offered Kyle Tucker a short-term deal with an average annual value of roughly $50 million. Rogers also reports that the Blue Jays have put a long-term offer on the table for Tucker. MMO’s Robert Colonna rounded up all of the Tucker rumors that circulated on Tuesday.

David Stearns spoke publicly at Citi Field about the Mets’ plans. He talked about the team’s need to boost the rotation, pitching and defense. Stearns also acknowledged the difficulty of losing fan favorites like Pete Alonso, Edwin Díaz, Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil but stressed that the organization is committed to building a consistent playoff contender and ultimately a World Series-caliber team. Blue Jays second baseman Ernie Clement has committed to join Team USA for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Evan Drellich of The Athletic reports that MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has reignited tension with the players’ union by openly discussing concepts tied to a salary cap, including a mandatory spending floor. However, he insists no formal proposal has been made. The MLBPA of course remains opposed.
The Royals are moving most of Kauffman Stadium’s outfield fences in by about 10 feet and lowering their height. This means that of MLB’s toughest parks for home runs could now become a more league-average environment. The Athletes Unlimited Softball League announced permanent home cities for all six teams beginning in 2026. The AUSL will open June 9 with teams based in Carolina, Chicago, Oklahoma City, Portland, Texas and Utah. They will play a 25-game schedule with expanded playoffs.

The Marlins are trading southpaw Ryan Weathers to the Yankees for four position-player prospects in Dillon Lewis, Dylan Jasso, Brendan Jones, and Juan Matheus, as first reported by Jack Curry of YES Network. It marks the second subtraction from their rotation following their trade of Edward Cabrera to the Cubs last week.
