McLean, Benge Lead Baseball Prospectus’ Top 10 Mets Prospects
When the No. 8 prospect in the system is described as a “poor man’s Matt Olson,” you know the farm is in pretty good shape.
Baseball Prospectus tabbed the Mets’ minor leagues as the best in baseball this year and ranked the group’s Top 20 in an article posted on Friday. The best of the promising bunch, per BP, is Nolan McLean.

“He’s probably not quite this good,” wrote Jeffrey Paternostro, referring to McLean’s dominance after he was called up last year. “The arsenal moves a lot and he’s going to have the odd five-inning, four-run, four-walk starts when he’s a bit loose on the reins, but much like Trey Yesavage, McLean just looks like a present number two starter, and there’s upside past that given how rapidly he’s developed on the mound.”
Baseball Prospectus also provided a “reckless fantasy comp” for each of the Top 10. McLean’s was “something like Logan Webb.”
Outfielder Carson Benge, a first-round pick in the 2024 draft who David Stearns said will have a chance to make the Opening Day roster, ranked second.
“Benge is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, master of none,” Paternostro wrote. “That does mean if one or two of those trades end up average he’s still an everyday player, but it’s hard to see the All-Star player if he’s not maxing out the offensive side of his game.” (Reckless fantasy comp: Nick Markakis).
Jonah Tong, who Paternostro thought could have used more seasoning before his MLB debut, was next. “In a perfect world, Tong would be a 2026 ETA, but the 2025 Mets were far from perfect,” he wrote. “I do not think his stock is particularly down off his struggles in Citi, but unusual prospects carry unusual risk.” (RFC: Nick Pivetta)
The rest of the Top 10, with their MLB ETA and reckless fantasy comps, follows:
- OF A.J. Ewing, 2026, Jacoby Ellsbury
- SS Jett Williams, 2026, Ha-Seong Kim
- 3B Jacob Reimer, Late 2026/2027, Casey Blake
- RHP Brandon Sproat, 2025 debut, Brayan Bello
- 1B Ryan Clifford, 2026, Poor man’s Matt Olson
- RHP Will Watson, Late 2026/2027, Emmet Sheehan
- IF Mitch Voit, 2028, Zack Gelof
Prospects 11-20
- RHP Jack Wenninger (Double-A)
- SS Elian Peña (DSL)
- OF Eli Serrano (High-A)
- LHP Jonathan Santucci (Double-A)
- LHP Zach Thornton (Double-A)
- C Chris Suero (Double-A)
- IF Antonio Jimenez (Low-A)
- RHP Dylan Ross (Triple-A)
- RHP Ryan Lambert (Double-A)
- 1B Randy Guzman (Low-A)
Wenninger, Peña and Santucci not cracking the Top 10 show how deep the farm is. Ross and Lambert are both relievers who could make an impact at the MLB level this year.
