ABL's Brisbane Bandits host Baseball5 showcase

The Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League (ABL) hosted a Baseball5 Showcase on January 9 ahead of their ABL game with the Adelaide Giants. Baseball5 StreetBall Australia - the country's first association dedicated to promoting and developing the five-on-five, urban version of Baseball/Softball from grassroots, schools, community, to national or international representation - supported the initiative.

The Robina State High School Students showcased Baseball5 with an exhibition game while organisers also invited fans to try the discipline.

The latest Baseball5 showcase in Brisbane is part of a wider development campaign across the country including the Chipping Norton Community Centre's (New South Wales) Speed and Agility Camp later in January, which will cover all aspects of Baseball5 athletic development, including explosive speed and agility, hand-eye coordination drills, quick-reaction and reflex drills, fielding, and Baseball5 games.

Australia is ranked 29th in the world and No. 1 in Oceania for Baseball5 having finished 12th in both the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup 2023 and the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup 2024.

Meanwhile, the ABL is in the final stages of its season. The Sydney Blue Sox will host the championship series from January 23 to 25. The Adelaide Giants and Perth Heat are competing for the other spot to play Sydney in the final.
