Fall/Winter League Roundup: Rivera electric in postseason performance

The regular season has ended in both the Puerto Rican and Dominican winter leagues, but a handful of Red Sox minor leaguers remain in the postseason hunt.

Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)
With the regular season ending last weekend in the Puerto Rican Winter League, a couple of Red Sox minor leaguers saw postseason action over the last week. The Criollos de Caguas, who are managed by Red Sox bench coach Ramón Vázquez, won the Wild Card round against the Indios de Mayaguez and are currently behind 2-1 in their semifinal matchup against Cangrejeros de Santurce. 

Eduardo Rivera (pictured) delivered five shutout innings for Santurce in Game 2 of the series, striking out eight batters while allowing two hits and walking three. Criollos relievers Jovani Moran and Wyatt Olds are yet to make a postseason appearance. In the other semifinal series, Gigantes de Carolina has a 2-1 lead on Leones de Ponce. Osvaldo Berrios tossed 1 1/3 shutout innings in Game 3 on Sunday night, striking out two batters. Catcher Juan Montero has not played in the first three games for the Leones.

Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM)
The LIDOM round robin tournament began last weekend. The Toros del Este are currently 5-2 in the tournament, but Allan Castro has not appeared in a game yet.
