Morning Briefing: Jeff McNeil ‘Really Excited’ to Join A’s
Good morning, Mets fans!
Jeff McNeil spoke a bit on his excitement to join a rapidly improving Athletics team.
“They have a great young core, and I just want to do my part to help them. I’m really excited to be a part of it,” McNeil said, reflecting on his whirlwind day and his expectations joining the young A’s squad.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported on Tuesday that the Mets have interest in outfielder Austin Hays. Hays, 30, is a notorious lefty-smasher and slashed a terrific .319/.400/.549 against southpaws in 2025. Additionally, he would likely necessitate a substantially smaller payday than the alternative options on the open market.
The Mets added two minor league pitchers on Tuesday. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that the team signed right-hander Tyler Burch to a two-year minor league deal. Later, MMO’s Mike Mayer reported the Mets also signed 30-year-old right-hander Ofreidy Gómez to a minor league contract. Both are career minor leaguers.
St. John’s University will honor alumna Shannon Forde, a trailblazing 22-year PR executive with the New York Mets who passed away in 2016, during the Red Storm’s game against Georgetown at Madison Square Garden. Her family will receive a jersey in recognition of her legacy in an industry where she broke barriers for women.
