Kyle Schwarber Re-Signs with Phillies

0 4

The first big bat is off the board.

Per Jeff Passan of ESPN, Kyle Schwarber will return to Philadelphia on a five-year, $150 million contract. The reigning NL home run leader was arguably the best power bat on the market and finished as a runner-up in NL MVP voting in 2025.

In his four years with the Phillies, the 32-year-old enjoyed career years, finishing with MVP votes in all four seasons, a Silver Slugger and All-Star game honors. He smashed 187 homers in his four seasons, leading the NL twice. A lifetime .231/.346/.500 hitter, Schwarber his a power-first hitter who’s transformed into a on-base machine via the walk or home run.

Schwarber received a four-year offer from the Pirates, and teams like the Mets, Red Sox, and Reds were all in on Schwarber, but the Phillies came away with their prized slugger in the end. Per Passan, many teams were waiting for Schwarber to sign to see how the pendulum would fall and how his market would shake out, setting the stage for other free agents like Kyle Tucker and Pete Alonso.

Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athleticthe Baltimore Orioles matched the Phillies offer to Schwarber, while the Reds offered the slugger a five year deal in the $125 million range. The Pirates’ deal was for four-years, $120 million.

The Mets have shown interest in Schwarber, especially if Alonso were to sign elsewhere. However, with Schwarber returning to the Mets’ division rivals, a reunion with Alonso seems all the more vital for New York to retain a slugger in their lineup.

Other top free agent hitters include Cody Bellinger, Bo Bichette, Alex Bregman and Munetaka Murakami.
