Mauricio, hitting lefty, on Sunday sent a 1-1 pitch over the right-center-field wall to give Tigres del Licey a 6-5 walk-off victory over Leones del Escogido in 10 innings. He is 2-for-10 with a pair of homers and four RBIs in the two games.
Further south and also playing in his home country, Acuña hit a grand slam for Cardenales de Lara in a 13-10 victory over Águilas del Zula. Acuña was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, two stolen bases and three runs scored. He’s slashing .275/.409/.549 in 126 plate appearances over 30 VWL games. He has stolen nine bases in 12 tries.
Mauricio, 24, and Acuña, 23, each had uneven seasons with the bat for the 2025 Mets and will look to realize their potential next year.
Mauricio hit .226/.293/.369 with six homers, 10 RBIs and four steals in 184 plate appearances over 61 games with the Mets. He started 32 games at third base. He has nothing left to prove in the minors and has everything to prove in the majors.
Acuña hit .234/.293/.274 with no homers, eight RBIs and 16 steals in 193 plate appearances over 95 games in New York, starting 41 games at second base. He also spent part of the year in the minors, hitting .303/.347/.385 with no home runs and 10 RBIs in 28 games at Syracuse.
